The Independent Churches of Jamaica grouping is giving illegal gun users and providers three months to get their act together as they prepare to prayerfully intervene in the recovery of guns and ammunition.

Reverend Al Miller, pastor of Fellowship Tabernacle in Kingston, while addressing the launch of the Men Advancing the Nation (MAN) 'Ting' initiative at the Courtleigh Hotel in New Kingston yesterday, said that a renewed focus was needed to tackle illegal gun usage in the country.

MAN Ting is an initiative promoted by the Independent Churches of Jamaica and other major denominations. Over the last three weeks, men have been walking throughout various communities in the Corporate Area, praying. This activity will culminate with a rededication exercise to God next Wednesday at the National Stadium car park.

Miller said that in addition to praying, practical steps were needed to address gun control within the nation.

"We want to emphatically declare that as the Church, we will make the matter of gun and ammunition recovery a prayer priority. So we are going to get the guns and the ammunition to free a nation to develop and prosper," Miller said

"Therefore, we are saying to those who are involved in providing the guns and ammunition to desist from supplying guns and ammunition to the youth of our nation and using our young men. We are here to be an advocate and a support to our young men, and we are saying to those who are using and destroying them that it must stop," he continued.

He said that the three-month period symbolises grace, noting that he was aware that everyone makes bad choices.
