Gleaner Editors' Forum | Five good reasons why you should participate in STATIN’s business survey

Officials of the Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) and the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ) last week used a Gleaner Editors’ Forum to appeal to businesses operators to participate in the Jamaica Survey of Establishments (JSE), which is now under way. They argued that participation in the JSE is important because:

Leesha Delatie-Budair, deputy director general of STATIN:

"It provides critical information for decision making."

Kirk Phillips, deputy director general of the PIOJ:

"Participating in this survey will facilitate the growth in your business and in Jamaica."

Monique Harper Griffiths, procurement specialist, PIOJ:

"It will ultimately improve the ease of doing business in Jamaica."

Carol Coy, director general of STATIN:

"Jamaica has this vision of becoming a developed country, and for you to become a developed country, you have to take evidenced-based decisions. So we need to move, as a country, towards that, and this survey is geared at providing that information."

Trevor Fearon, CEO Jamaica Chamber of Commerce:

"Data-driven decisions are much more robust than decisions based on sentiment or feelings, and this provides us with better data."
