Residents kill murder suspect

Despite appeals by head of the St Ann police Senior Superintendent of Police Michael Smith that residents do not take the law into their own hands, they exacted jungle justice on accused killer Orville Scarlett early Friday morning in Watt Town in the parish.

Smith confirmed that Scarlett, otherwise called Bull, was set upon by residents in Watt Town, where he lived, and beaten to death at around 1:40 yesterday morning.

Scarlett was accused of chopping to death 32-year-old Allisha Francis and her 10-year-old son, Jahmani Jackson, on Tuesday.

Francis' older son, 12-year-old Jahmarley, who was injured in the attack, remains in hospital in stable condition. He reportedly lost all his fingers on his left hand during the assault.

The incident left residents of Watt Town, Linton Park, and surrounding communities in St Ann shocked and condemning the vicious attack on the family even as some sought to make sense of the killing.
