Fulton takes charge of JAS tomorrow

Agriculturalist Lenworth Fulton will tomorrow take the reins of the 123-year-old Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) following a formal handover ceremony during the monthly board meeting at the JAS headquarters, 67 Church Street, downtown Kingston.
Fulton, along with first Vice-president Denton Alvaranga and second Vice-president Owen Dobson, trounced the Glendon Harrison-led team at the last annual general meeting, having campaigned on a transformation agenda. Delegates responded overwhelmingly to their promise to restore the JAS to its core values of advocacy for small farmers, while embracing the advances in technology.
At tomorrow's meeting, Norman Grant, who led the organisation from 2012, will demit office, paving the way for the start of Fulton's three-year term in office.
Fulton, a graduate of the Jamaica School of Agriculture and Tuskegee University in the United States, and who holds a diploma in general agriculture and a bachelor's degree in economics, has committed to addressing issues such as health insurance and pension benefits for farmers.
