PM urges more efficient management of traffic

Expressing deep concern for the displacement that some persons have suffered as major roadworks intensify in the Corporate Area, Prime Minister Andrew Holness has given head of the National Works Agency (NWA) E.G. Hunter and Commissioner of Police Major General Antony Anderson clear directives to have the traffic situation resolved.

The prime minister met with the senior management of the NWA, the Jamaica Constabulary Force, and Chinese construction firm China Harbour Engineering Company yesterday to discuss solutions to the current traffic challenges.

During the meeting, Holness said that more must be done to inform the public of traffic changes and to ensure more efficient management of traffic and diversions.

In that regard, the NWA has been instructed to specify designated routes for the public, especially for the alternative route for the Three Miles, Hagley Park, and Constant Spring areas.

The prime minister also underscored the need for the NWA to move immediately to improve the signage along the designated routes because of the closure of the Three Miles intersection.

Prime Minister Holness said that the police must ensure that adequate security presence is maintained along the designated routes in order to reduce the likelihood of further inconvenience to the travelling public.
