Up to late yesterday afternoon, the police said that they had not made any charges against a police corporal and a teenage boy who were found with two illegal guns, including an AK-47 rifle, on Tuesday night.

"Nothing has changed at the moment. They are still in custody, and no charges have been made as yet," offered Assistant Police Commissioner Fitz Bailey, head of the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Division (C-TOC).

The policeman is reportedly 52 years old and is assigned to the operations unit in the St Catherine South Police Division. He was nabbed during what the police described as a 'snap operation'.

The guns were reportedly found in a vehicle he was driving along Myers Lane in Newlands, Portmore, St Catherine, while the teenager was held in proximity of the vehicle, the police have said.

Investigators said that the AK-47, "with the serial number obscured" and 15 rounds of ammunition, along with a Taurus 9mm pistol, were found in the trunk of the car.

The policeman's licensed firearm and 34 rounds of 9mm ammunition were also seized.
