Not in her wildest dreams did 23-year-old Asheka Ramsay think her first child would be fighting for her life so early.

The first-time mother said that her whole world was shaken when doctors told her in September that her once vibrant and jovial two-year-old, Azaria Ajarie, was diagnosed with B-Cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

She told The Gleaner that things have not been the same since she heard the news, but she has to keep going for her daughter.

"My family and I are so distraught because we did not expect this. I even got so sick because I am so worried about her," she said.

Ramsay, who worked as a cashier, had to leave her job in order to take care of her daughter, which has put a strain on her financial capabilities. She said that her child's father and other family members are trying their best to help her.

The concerned mother said that since the diagnosis, they have spent thousands of dollars getting tests done and now she is asking for help because her daughter may have to do a bone marrow transplant.

"She is currently doing chemotherapy and the doctors said that her bone marrow is extensively packed with blasts cells, so if the chemo doesn't work, we have to do bone marrow transplant," the tearful Ramsay said.

After initial attempts to get help for her two-year-old daughter Azaria Ajarie, who is diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, failed, Asheka Ramsay is refusing to relent and is now turning to the public for assistance.

The worried mother said she is taking her request to the public because her daughter's life could be at risk.

Ramsay said that she has been in talks with doctors from the Mount Sinai Hospital in Miami, United States, because she is ensuring that they are prepared for everything.

"We have spoken to doctors and they said they are reviewing my daughter's case and will tell us how much it is to do the transplant," she said.

"I am exhausted, but I have to stay strong for her. I have bills to pay and not being able to work has pressured her father, and he is not making much. I just don't want to lose her," the young mother lamented.
