Attorneys for murder accused Constable Collis 'Chucky' Brown are expected to call a character witness to the stand, as the trial continues in the Home Circuit Court in downtown Kingston today.

Brown is being tried for the 2009 murder of Robert 'Gutty' Dawkins and the 2012 murders of Dwayne 'Murderous' Douglas and Andrew Fearon. Both incidents happened in Clarendon.

Yesterday, Brown gave an unsworn statement. Here are excerpts from his statement:

- "There was a particular shooting incident at the May Pen Hospital in 2012 where I was accused of by the JCF (Jamaica Constabulary Force). I went through all the channels to get my name cleared but did not succeed. That incident involved the shooting of Adif Washington. I had no part in it."

- "I proceeded to a human-rights organisation where I had words with a particular person. As a result of that, I was introduced to a former high-ranking police officer who I also had words with. I was advised and I left the location."

- "A few days later, I received a telephone call from [an INDECOM officer] who told me that he works at INDECOM (Independent Commission of Investigations) and he could assist me. We had a discussion. As a result of the discussion, a meeting was had in the parish of Manchester."

- "I proceeded to the location where I met with [the INDECOM officer] and a man who identified himself as Hamish Campbell. In the discussion, I was told that I would be meeting with the commissioner of INDECOM. We had a discussion and I left the location. Certain things were discussed as I was about to leave the location for the protection of my wife and my son."

- "As it relates to the shooting death of Damoy [Robert] Dawkins, o/c Gutty, I did not have anything to do with it. I never shot and killed Damoy Dawkins."

- "In relation to the Swansea incident, I received the information from my superior at the time ... and proceeded to the location with other members. The unit was spotted and stopped by the police, the men hurriedly exited the vehicle. One person came from the rear of the vehicle, opened gunfire at us. I myself and others returned gunfire in their direction. After the shooting ended, two men were seen on the ground with gunshot wounds with two firearms. The scene was processed and I proceeded to the May Pen Police Station."
