Principal of the Wolmer's Boys' High School Dr Walton Small is likely to be named as the next candidate for the People's National Party (PNP) in South St James, to replace veteran Member of Parliament (MP) Derrick Kellier.

Small is also the president of the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association.

Gleaner sources say that Small was recently cleared by the PNP's Integrity Commission, the body set up by the party to vet potential candidates to contest elections.

While there has been no confirmation from the PNP, there have been whispers that Kellier could be preparing his exit from representational politics.

The whispers first surfaced following the resignations of former prime minister and PNP MP for St Andrew South Western, Portia Simpson Miller, and MP for St Andrew Southern, Omar Davies, late last year.

Public relations consultant and Kellier's brother, Martin Kellier, had expressed interest in replacing the senior Kellier.

General Secretary of the Jamaica Labour Party Dr Horace Chang reserved comment on the development when contacted yesterday evening.
