RJRGLEANER shine at PAJ awards
The RJRGLEANER Communications Group emerged the night's big winners at the 2018 Press Association of Jamaica (PAJ) National Journalism Awards last Saturday.
Television Jamaica's Andrea Chisholm was named Journalist of the Year, making this her second consecutive year winning the title, while Young Journalist of the Year went to The Gleaner's Carlene Davis.
Chief Judge Patrick Harley, in his report, said that the number of entries submitted was slightly down from last year, but the quality of work had improved.
"Last year, we asked editors and supervisors to be more selective in the entries that are submitted, and it seems that our request was heard. We have seen an improvement, but there is still need for much work."
OUTSTANDING WORK
Harley added: "We are still looking for outstanding, not just OK, work, and so no award was made in some categories."
He highlighted that the judges were disappointed in the categories Breaking-News Coverage and Best Cover Design for Newspapers but applauded the increase in the number of the radio entries.
PAJ President George Davis, in his address, said the organisation was working hard, especially for young journalists, and by January 2019, these young journalists would be able to access education grants to further their craft.
