Sentencing for ‘Chucky’ Brown pushed back again

Murder-convicted police Constable Collis 'Chucky' Brown will have to wait at least three more weeks before knowing how long he will spend behind bars, following the postponement of his sentencing hearing yesterday.

The proceedings were pushed back as the downtown Kingston-based Home Circuit Court, where Brown was tried, is no longer in session. The new court term will begin on Monday.

This is the second time Brown's sentencing has been postponed, having first been scheduled for December 20, 2018.

On the original day of sentencing, presiding judge Justice Vivene Harris told the court that the social enquiry and probation report would need further examination.

She also ordered that individuals who had contributed to the report be present in court on the day of sentencing.

Brown was found guilty of three counts of murder by a six-member jury on November 15, 2018, in relation to the January 10, 2009, murder of Damoy 'Gutty' Dawkins and the December 13, 2012, murder of Dwayne Douglas and Andrew Fearon.

Brown's sentencing is scheduled for January 25.
