Reid announces PEP readiness and scholarship opportunities for teachers
The Ministry of Education has committed 1,140 scholarships between 2018 and 2020, which will cost over $300 million, to support the training of 135 mathematics teachers and 150 physics teachers and chemistry teachers, as well as 120 technical vocational-education teachers and 650 engineers, this financial year.
Minister of Education, Youth and Information Ruel Reid made the announcement last night during a public broadcast to the nation ahead of today's start of the new school term.
Another topic highlighted by the minister was the recent successful launch of the 0-3 Brain Builders Programme.
He also reminded students who will sit the Primary Exit Profile (PEP) examination, as well as their parents, that a special website and app have been set up to assist with preparation.
"As we prepare for the first sitting of the Primary Exit Profile examination, beginning with the abilities component next month, I remind you that there is a special website, as well as an app, with useful information, such as relevant exam dates, curricula, lesson plans and sample items for each exam. All systems are on track for a successful implementation of the Primary Exit Profile examination," Reid said.
He also noted, "Over $100 million was provided to schools to upgrade science areas. The Centre of Occupational Studies now has enrolled over 1,000 students."
