GALINA, ST MARY:

Seven of eight persons who were rushed to hospital yesterday morning following a motor vehicle accident along the Galina main road in St Mary have been released.

A female passenger, who suffered a broken leg, facial injury, and a dislocated shoulder, remains hospitalised in critical but stable condition.

According to a police report, a 15-seater Toyota Hiace minibus plying the Port Antonio to Ocho Rios route slammed into the back of a Coaster bus, which was about to make a right turn towards Galina Breeze Hotel, shortly after 8:30 a.m.

The Coaster bus propelled forward and slammed into the main entrance gate, ripping it from its hinges, while damaging a section of the wall bordering the hotel.

The Hiace reportedly over-turned on its side, resulting in passengers being banged against the interior of the bus, shattering some of the glass windows.

According to the police, cries for help and screams were heard coming from the overturned bus, and passing motorists, along with hotel workers, quickly ran to the aid of the injured passengers.

Eight people, comprising six females and two males, were rushed to Port Maria Hospital.

The Port Maria police are investigating.
