Spanish investment to top US$1.6b
WESTERN BUREAU:
When the new Ocean Coral Spring by H10 hotel in Trelawny is completed, the level of Spanish investment in Jamaica over the past decade will surpass US$1.6 billion.
It would appear that additional Spanish investments are also in the pipeline as according to Victoria García Ojeda, chargé d’affaires at the Spanish Embassy in Jamaica, the Ocean Coral Spring by H10 hotel in Trelawny is signalling the beginning of a new wave of investment.
“We will continue with further investment in Hanover and St James to come on stream,” said García. “It is our way of continuing our contribution to Jamaica’s economic development and our solid partnership to H10 hotels.”
Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett, who was speaking at the groundbreaking on Wednesday, was bullish about Trelawny’s tourism prospects.
“In another three to five years, this parish is expected to see the largest investment in tourism rooms,” said Bartlett. “By that time, the parish should have a total of 8,000 rooms, a continuation of the wave of investment in tourism.”
