Man held on rape charge trying to flee to Jamaica

HACKENSACK, New Jersey (AP):

A New York City man has been charged in a sexual assault that occurred in New Jersey 14 years ago.

Authorities say Roydell Cameron was arrested on March 29 at JFK Airport as he tried to board a flight to Jamaica. He remains jailed in New York pending extradition to New Jersey.

The arrest was announced on Thursday.

Authorities say that an expanded cold case homicide unit helped develop DNA evidence in the case, which led to Cameron being identified as a suspect. The 39-year-old Bronx man is accused of raping a woman at gunpoint in Palisades Park in April 2005.

Cameron faces two counts of sexual assault as well as a weapons offence and a charge of making terrorist threats. It wasn’t known yesterday if he has retained an attorney.

 

US deports men wanted to face charges in Jamaica

NEW YORK (CMC):

The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) says its agents have deported two Jamaicans to the island to face criminal charges.

On Wednesday, ICE said that Dwayne Thomas, 35, who is wanted to face murder and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition charges, and Mwando Lloyd Pryce, 31, who is wanted to face charges of robbery, attempted murder, and wounding with intent, were deported to Jamaica.

They were removed from the United States via an ICE Air Operations charter flight and transferred into the custody of Jamaican law-enforcement authorities.

Both men had been facing charges in local courts when they fled the island and illegally entered the United States.

Cops hunt four Costa Ricans

Detectives assigned to the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch are seeking the public’s assistance in locating four Costa Ricans who are believed to have illegally entered the island last month.

They are Jeison Jesús Villalobos Arias, who is 22 years old and of brown complexion, brown eyes and low-cut hair; Kristian Antonio Solo Baldivia, 38, of brown complexion, brown hair, and stout build; Francisco Javier Flores Blackwood, 58, otherwise called ‘Chico’, of brown complexion, brown eyes, and slim build; and a man known only as ‘Persio’.

The police say that the men are believed to be in Westmoreland and were last heard from on Thursday, March 7.

A report was made to local authorities and an investigation subsequently launched.

Truck driver charged after mowing down woman, infant

The police have charged a man with causing death by dangerous driving following a motor vehicle crash last Tuesday.

He is 26-year-old Major-Mark Bennett, a truck driver of Henry Morgan Avenue, Kingston 11.

It is reported that about 5:40 p.m., Bennett was driving a Mitsubishi Fuso truck along Morrison Street in Spanish Town, St Catherine, when he lost control of the vehicle, which hit 37-year-old Diana Taylor and her three-year-old daughter both of Morrison Street.

Taylor and her daughter were taken to hospital where the woman was pronounced dead and her daughter admitted in a stable condition.

A date is to be set for Bennett to appear in court.
