WESTERN BUREAU:

Savanna-la-Mar Mayor Bertel Moore was left fuming on Tuesday as he said that being head of the political directorate in Westmoreland, he should have been informed about the state of public emergency (SOE) implemented in the parish yesterday.

“Nobody said anything to me that it was coming, or nothing. The first time I hear it was on the news, which I think is very poor,” Moore told The Gleaner. “As the leader in the parish, this is something I think I should be aware of.

“Nevertheless, the people of Westmoreland appreciate it because the rate of crime in the parish was getting so bad,” added Moore.

Moore said that while he was pleased to see the security forces on the ground in the parish seeking to restore order, he wants them to act in a manner that innocent persons are not unnecessarily affected.

“Only one thing I am hoping is that when they detain someone, they must do their investigation as quickly as possible because I don’t want to see someone going to work, and they just hold on to them and they just lose their jobs because of this thing,” he said.

“I don’t have a problem, but they must ensure that they do it in the right way,” added Moore.
