Cop under probe after losing gun
A police constable assigned to the Sandy Bay Police Station in Hanover is now under probe after he reportedly lost his firearm in a taxi he boarded in Hopewell to take him to the station after completing beat duties.
The divisional command has released few details but said the matter is under investigation.
It is common practice for cops in Sandy Bay to use taxis because the station has only one service vehicle, which is not always available.
Yesterday, one Sandy Bay resident said it was now time for the Police High Command to address the issue of cops having to take taxis while on duty.
“Mi see the policeman when him go inna the car, but it’s not a regular taxi, so mi don’t even know who, and them cyaa blame the policeman because him should not have been travelling in a taxi from the first place,” said the resident, who is a vendor.
It is reported that the cop noticed that his service weapon was missing sometime after the taxi had dropped him off and had left the station.
He immediately reported the matter to other officers at the station and went in search of the taxi operator but did not find him.
