Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced a State of Public Emergency in the parishes of Clarendon and St Catherine.

It will last initially for 14 days.

Holness made the announcement a short while ago at a press conference at Jamaica House.

This is the third State of Public Emergency to be announced in the past six months.

Existing States of Public Emergency

1. St Catherine North
2. Westmoreland, Hanover, St James
3. Clarendon and St Catherine

In 2017, there were 171 murders in Clarendon, last year, there were 133, and this morning, Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson reported that since January, there have been 100.

The 100 murders in Clarendon make the parish the second bloodiest police division behind St Andrew South.
