Cricket legend Deryck Lance Murray has been appointed to the post of high commissioner for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to Jamaica, according to a Trinidad Express report.

Businessman Edward Ayin has also been appointed high commissioner for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to Canada.

The announcements came in a late-night press release on Thursday from Trinidad’s Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs.

The Trinidad Express said that according to the ministry, the new heads of mission would work to deepen bilateral and multilateral partnerships as they seek to advance the interests of Trinidad and Tobago in the countries to which they are accredited and globally.

Murray is a former West Indies wicketkeeper and right-handed batsman who kept wicket to the West Indian fast-bowling attacks of the 1970s. His glovework effected 189 Test dismissals and greatly enhanced the potency of the regional side’s bowling attack.
