Two arrested on gun, ammo charges

One man was arrested on reasonable suspicion of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition in Berrydale, Manchester, on Thursday.

Reports from the Porus police are that about 5:45 p.m., lawmen were conducting patrols in the area when one man was seen acting in a manner that aroused suspicion.

Upon approach of the lawmen, he allegedly threw an object in a garbage bin and ran. He was subsequently accosted and the object retrieved and found to be a homemade firearm containing one round of ammunition.

In St James, 29-year-old Jeremey Williams, otherwise called ‘Indian’ of Montpelier, St James, has been charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

Reports from the Freeport police are that about 10:50 a.m., on Thursday, a police-military team saw Williams acting in a suspicious manner along the along Copperwood main road. He allegedly ran and was accosted and searched.

A Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol, along with ten 9mm rounds of ammunition, was found in his waistband.

 

 

Cops probe stabbing death in Portmore

The Portmore police have commenced a probe into the circumstances surrounding the stabbing death of an unidentified man on Newton Avenue in Portmore, St Catherine, on Thursday.

The deceased is believed to be about 25 years old.

The body is of slim build, about 178 centimetres (5 feet 10 inches) long, sports a low cut hairstyle and has the number ’27 and 6’ tattooed on his left arm.

Reports are that about 9 p.m., residents stumbled upon the body and alerted the police. Upon the arrival of the lawmen, the body was seen with multiple stab wounds. The scene was processed and the body removed to the morgue pending post mortem examination.

 

 

Bahamas deports more than 100 Haitians

NASSAU, Bahamas (CMC):

The Bahamas has deported more than 100 Haitian nationals less than two weeks after Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis warned illegal migrants they should either leave the country voluntarily or be “forced to leave” following the passage of Hurricane Dorian last month.

A statement issued by the Department of immigration said that a flight departed the Lynden Pindling International Airport for Port-au-Prince, Haiti, this week with a total of 112 Haitian nationals escorted by a team of law enforcement officers.

The brief statement did not indicate whether those deported had survived the passage of the storm, but at the start of this month, Minnis warned illegal migrants who survived the passage of Hurricane Dorian on September 1 would be deported in keeping with the law.

 

 

EU, Britain to intensify talks on a Brexit deal

BRUSSELS (AP):

The European Union says it has agreed with the United Kingdom to “intensify” Brexit negotiations in a belated attempt to reach a divorce deal ahead of October 31, when Britain is scheduled to leave the bloc.

The EU announcement came after EU Council President Donald Tusk vowed that the 27 nations would make another push for a deal following a constructive meeting between British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his Irish counterpart, Leo Varadkar.

EU negotiator Michel Barnier and Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay already laid the groundwork for intensified talks earlier yesterday.

On Monday, the EU will again take stock to assess the chances of a Brexit deal.

Economists say a no-deal Brexit would hurt both the UK and the EU economies.
