Meat heist! - Thieves hit Best Dressed Chicken in wee hours on Christmas Eve

The St Catherine North police have confirmed that a probe has been launched into the theft of a truck laden with Jamaica Broilers poultry from a facility in Spring Village district near Old Harbour, St Catherine.

The Spring Village compound is one of four locations in St Catherine operated by the Jamaica Broilers Group.

Speaking with The Gleaner yesterday, Senior Superintendent Clive Blair, head of the St Catherine North Police Division, said that no one has been held so far in connection with the Best Dressed Chicken heist.

“The truck was recovered. They stole 300 bags of chicken, and 80 bags were recovered. I don’t have the value at this time. I will speak back with the investigating officer tomorrow,” SSP Blair told The Gleaner.

Christopher Levy, president and chief executive officer of Jamaica Broilers, told The Gleaner yesterday that he was awaiting a report before he could speak publicly on the matter.

However, reports from the police are that on Tuesday, December 24, the hoodlums gained entry to the Spring Village compound about 2:45 a.m.

A white Freightliner Freezer body truck, laden with 300 cases (bags) of chicken, was driven away by persons under bizarre circumstances as the facility was said to be secured.

The vehicle was eventually tracked and found abandoned about 7 a.m. in the Amity Hall community.

A search of the area was conducted; however, nobody was held in connection with the theft.
