Student who attacked dean at Oracabessa High arrested

The Oracabessa High School student who allegedly attacked the dean of discipline at the school on Wednesday was arrested by the police on Thursday morning after he turned up at the institution with an ice pick in his bag.
Allegations are that the boy and his father went to the school gate, with the student demanding to see the dean of discipline. He reportedly made threats against the dean of discipline, noting that if he was not fired, he would take physical action against the schoolteacher.
A policeman in plain clothes, who was nearby, apprehended the boy, and when his bag was searched, the weapon was found.
Superintendent of Police Bobette Morgan-Simpson, the officer in charge of St Mary, confirmed that a student of the school was arrested after an ice pick was found in his school bag.
On Wednesday, the student allegedly attacked the dean after he told him and several other students that they could not attend class unless they were properly groomed.
Senior Vice-Principal Donovan Thomas, speaking to The Gleaner, said that the student ignored the dean, taking issue with his remarks.
“I’m not sure of what happened thereafter as I still need to get a detailed report,” Thomas said.
But he divulged that the dean sustained injury to his face after he was punched several times by the student. The dean later went to the police and then to the hospital to get X-rays done. He is currently on sick leave.
Thomas told The Gleaner that there was a decline in altercations at the school owing to the dean’s presence as students could not behave in disorderly manner on the school premises.
