Investigators probing the daring daylight murder of Shamari Horace Waul and a related shooting in Stony Hill Square have charged two men, including a teen, after they were positively identified yesterday.

Those charged are 22-year-old DesChante ‘Chucky’ Dunkley and 18-year-old Donald Wescart, otherwise called ‘Twin’ or ‘Coolie’.

Both men are to make their first court appearance early next week.

They are charged with murder and wounding with intent with the use of a firearm.

Detective Sergeant Leonard Stewart, who is in charge of the crime portfolio at the Stony Hill Police Station, confirmed that the suspects were formally charged yesterday.

Our news team understands that on February 12, Waul was on his way to work when he was pounced upon by armed men, who shot him several times.

He died on the spot.

A motorist was shot twice while driving his daughter to school. Bystanders also sustained gunshot wounds.

Reports from the police are that two gunmen walked up to a crowd of people standing along the roadway in Stony Hill Square about 6:30 a.m. and opened fire before escaping on foot.

Inspector Linval Harrison of the Stony Hill police told The Gleaner that Dunkley was held in the Stony Hill area shortly after the incident.

Harrison disclosed that Wescart was arrested during a joint divisional operation in Enfield, St Mary, on February 14.

St Andrew North has recorded the most murders of all 19 police divisions since the start of the year.

Up to Saturday, February 22, a total of 22 homicides were recorded, almost four times the six murders tallied in the corresponding period in 2019.
