‘Mi tired fi bawl!’ - 75-y-o mourns grandson as St Andrew South bleeds

The 75-year-old grandmother of 22-year-old Ahkeem Lindsay, who was shot and killed yesterday at the cook shop where he worked, said that the news of his death has hit her hard just as she was overcoming the passing of a son.
The murder happened on Palladium Crescent, Waterhouse, in the blood-stained St Andrew South, which is one of eight police divisions currently under a state of emergency.
But that security crackdown – with policy-military checkpoints at a few intersections – has failed to staunch the haemorrhaging in an area overrun with criminal factions. By crude numbers, St Andrew South is the deadliest police zone, with 35 killings up to March 21, representing more than 11 per cent of the national body count of 306 compared with the corresponding period in 2019.
Though in grief, Mildred Lindsay recounted how she was awakened by the sounds of bullets being pumped into her grandson’s body shortly after 6 a.m.
“Mi sick, mi sick! Mi tired fi bawl! ... I woke up wondering a who a beat up fence so soon. Somebody tell mi seh is not fence, but gunshot.
“The prime minister seh people 75 years and over nuh fi go a road, suh mi not even get fi see him. From mi bury mi son September, mi get sick October. And mi just did start fi get over the sickness a little bit,” she shared.
She bemoaned not being able to see his body as she was barred from venturing outdoors on recent orders from the prime minister.
“A eight doctor mi go to how mi sick. Mi have sugar, pressure, and poor circulation inna di foot.”
The septuagenarian said that she was unaware that Ahkeem Lindsay was compromised by his associations, pondering if “bad mind” over the construction of his house was the trigger behind his death.
Three other men were murdered in St Andrew South on Tuesday: Theodore Brown, 28, of Seaview Gardens; Oral Lee, of Bowens Road; and Dane Clarke, also of Bowens Road.
