Attorney-at-law Clyde Williams has announced his resignation as a member of the People's National Party (PNP).

Williams, in a post on Twitter, said, he wrote to PNP general secretary Julian Robinson announcing his resignation and his email has since been acknowledged.

Thirty minutes after announcing his resignation, Williams again took to Twitter to say why is leaving the party.

"A member of an organisation has certain duties and the organisation has reasonable expectations. Members of a political party are expected to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with helping their party win the next general election and form Government. I cannot meet these expectations. One love," he tweeted.

Williams has been a prominent member of the party and has been vociferous on certain issues.

He had also been a member of the PNP's Human Rights Commission.

Only this week, Williams publicly disagreed with the call by Opposition Leader Dr Peter Phillips for a commission of enquiry into the death of first-time mom Jodian Fearon.

Fearon died under controversial circumstances at the University Hospital of the West Indies on the weekend.
