Mandeville cops clean up home away from home

MANDEVILLE:

WHILE MOST people in Manchester abided by the stay-at-home guideline for Labour Day projects, personnel at the Mandeville Police Station paid special attention to their second home, which received a much-needed facelift.

A team from the Manchester Municipal Corporation and police staffers were seen washing walls, repainting, and completing minor repairs on Monday.

“We are just doing a bit of sprucing up ... . We have about 100 persons that work from here, and just like any other building that needs maintenance, we are doing just a general repainting of the facility today,” said commanding officer, Superintendent Gary Francis.

The superintendent told The Gleaner that there were plans by the Ministry of National Security and the Jamaica Constabulary Force to expand the building as needs arise.

Mandeville Mayor Donovan Mitchell said lending assistance to the police went beyond duty. He said that front-line personnel should be made a priority because they were risking their lives every day for citizens.

“We are helping them to fix up their homes because there are barracks here where police officers stay ... . We will be doing some repairs to the Criminal Investigation Branch and constructing another handwashing station and doing sanitisation of the urinals,” Mitchell said.
