Timroy Thomas has also been ordered to surrender his travel documents, reside in Norwich district, Portland, for the duration of the case and not to visit the Whydah district.

A Kingston man who was held allegedly with an illegal firearm in Portland was today offered bail despite objection by the clerk of court.

Tomoy Thomas, 29, who resides in the Kingston 10 area, is facing charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The police reported that acting on information, the illegal gun and 13 rounds of ammunition were found yesterday in a house occupied by Thomas in Whydah district, St Margaret’s Bay.

The clerk of court, in opposing Thomas’ bail application, indicated that he was wanted for questioning in connection to a murder committed in the Hunts Bay police area in St Andrew South in February this year.

However, attorney-at-law John Jacobs, who represents Thomas, told the court that his client surrendered to the police earlier this year after learning that he was being sought in connection with the killing.

According to Jacobs, Thomas spent nearly three weeks in custody during which he was questioned by investigators and released.

However, the clerk of the court explained that after his release the police got new information about the killing.

But Jacobs took issue with this assertion, pointing out that the “new information” came the same time his client was arrested.

Thomas was offered bail in the sum of $250,000 and ordered to report to the Port Antonio Police Station three times per week.

He has also been ordered to surrender his travel documents, reside in Norwich district, Portland, for the duration of the case and not to visit the Whydah district.
