The year was 1980, when the Jamaica Labour Party won 51 of the 60 seats in the House of Representatives. The People’s National Party (PNP) won nine seats and got a total of 350,064 votes. The closest any party has come to that record was 473,754 in 1989, when the PNP won 45 of the 60 seats in the House.
