Judiciary exceeds 2019 judgment deliveries, on course to clearing backlog

Chief Justice Bryan Sykes is reporting that at the end of September this year, the court exceeded the number of judgments delivered for the similar period last year.

At a press conference this morning, the chief justice did not provide the details.

However, he asserted that the judiciary is on course to clearing the backlog of judgments.

"Technology has been having a significant impact on the operations of the Supreme Court," said Sykes explaining that it has made the court more accessible especially to rural practitioners.

Meanwhile, president of the Court of Appeal Justice Dennis Morrison said the objective now is to have a paperless court.

He said an e-filing project has been implemented and a pilot for the Judicial Case Management system has been ongoing.

This system will allow all files in the judicial system to be accessed electronically and also eliminates the risk of files getting lost.
