Cops on brink of charging suspect in Manchester murder

MANDEVILLE, Manchester:

At least one of the three suspects arrested in relation to the killing of businesswoman Marcia Chin-You is on the verge of being charged, Superintendent Gary Francis, commanding officer of the Manchester police, has confirmed.

Chin-You’s bloodied body was found in her car in the driveway of her Ingleside Close home on Thursday night by residents who later alerted the police.

According to police reports, the former supermarket owner’s body had multiple stab wounds.

Following intensive investigations, the police arrested two males and one female on Friday in relation to the killling.

“We will be charging someone ... . We have a breakthrough and we continue to investigate and will update the citizens through the media when there is a change,” Francis told The Gleaner on Sunday.

The Manchester commanding officer is appealing to persons who can further assist with the investigation to call (876)962-2250, (876)997-8884, or 119.

Since the incident, residents in the area say they have been on high alert.

“At this point, we just have to have our eyes and ears opened even more because nowhere is really safe. These incidents have the ability to play on your mind heavily, but you can’t just up and leave your home ... . I just can’t believe what is really happening,” said a resident, who requested anonymity.

However, president of the Ingleside Citizens’ Association, Debra Aswan, said she is pleased with speed of the investigation, adding that residents were comforted by the lawmen’s efforts.

“We feel comfortable with what the police have done in apprehending persons related to the killing, and we stand by the police with what they are doing,” she said.

Aswan said that the police have always had a strong presence in the upscale Manchester community.

Chin-You is said to have contributed significantly to the entrepreneurial growth and development of Mandeville for decades, making her tragic end a hard pill to swallow for colleagues in the business community.

President of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce, Kenisha Dwyer-Powell, said the heinous crime has impacted business operators across the parish, intensifying pressure for additional security measures.

“ ... To wake up to the news of her, Mrs Chin-You’s, murder is very alarming. The business community has been really touched,” Dwyer-Powell said.

“We have seen over the past couple of weeks murders within the business community and it is a cause for concern ... .”

Dwyer-Powell is encouraging residents and business people to exercise caution when making transactions.

Though no motive has yet been established for the killing, Manchester Custos Garfield Green has urged business operators to bolster their security arrangements for Christmas.

“We handle cash, and sometimes we handle significant amounts of cash, and we take it for granted that we can move it by ourselves. At least one person will know you have cash on you, so put some security measures in place. Call the police if you don’t have private security,” he said.
