St James’ most wanted nabbed

A man who was wanted by the St James police in connection with several murders and shootings in the volatile Norwood community was apprehended during a joint police-military operation yesterday.
He was reportedly found hiding in a house as the security forces searched homes and cars in the community.
“This individual has been creating mayhem and terror within the Norwood space, and so far, he has been linked to over six murders,” a cop who took part in the operation told The Gleaner.
“It is safe to say that this man is one of the most wanted crime figures in the parish of St James, and he has been behind a string of murders from as way back as last year,” the lawman added.
The cop told The Gleaner that some 15 persons had been killed in Norwood since the latter part of last year and that the man held yesterday was fingered in several of the killings.
“Despite the fact that we have not had a murder in Norwood over the past week, investigations have linked several men from the Norwood community to a number of crimes in other parts of the parish ... . We are here to make a clean sweep of the area in search of wanted men and illegal weapons,” the policeman added.
The man is the prime suspect in the murder of a juice distributor, who was killed in the community last year; the December 24, 2020, shooting deaths of 25-year-old entertainer Damian Coleman and 28-year-old Odane Satahoo, along the Flankers main road; and the subsequent murder of 26-year-old student nurse Fabian Wilson.
“The most recent incident in which he has been fingered is the January incident, where armed men went on a shooting spree in the community, killing three men and injuring two others, including a teenage boy and a female,” continued the policeman.
Those killed during that attack were identified as 20-year-old Nicardo Daley, otherwise called ‘Nick’; 47-year-old Donovan Reid, otherwise called ‘Dummy’; and 50-year-old Aubrey Brown.
Since the start of the year, 38 persons have been murdered in St James, a 138 per cent increase when compared to the 16 cases recorded up to March 17 last year.
