Man allegedly kills best friend while having drinks

Irate residents of All-Side in southern Trelawny yesterday protested the killing of a man, who was allegedly shot dead by his best friend after being invited over for drinks.
The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Kimorlay Anthony Forbes, a pool attendant of the same community.
According to police reports, on Sunday, Forbes and two of his cousins were invited to a business establishment to which the 28-year-old accused has connections.
While having drinks, the accused reportedly used a hand to push Forbes in his face, sparking a heated argument, during which the accused reportedly pulled his licensed firearm and opened fire, hitting Forbes multiple times in his upper body.
The police were summoned and when they arrived, the badly injured Forbes was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The accused was later found sitting inside his house. He was taken into custody and his firearm seized.
When The Gleaner visited the community yesterday, the angry protesters clamoured for justice under the watchful eye of the police.
Dalton Forbes, the father of the slain man, told The Gleaner that he was shocked that his son was killed in such a callous manner.
“[The accused] invited him at his home to have a drink, and after dem having them drink, then wi hear gunshots, and two of my nephews come tell wi that my son get shot,” the distraught father said. “Mi run go up there and my son lay down dead ... . Dem deh together every day.”
According to the father, he, too, was well acquainted with the accused, who regularly made purchases at a shop that he operates in the community.
“Me run a shop right down here, and [him] tek goods from mi to supply the business up there. Mi nah expect that from him,” continued the father. “I don’t know if him overdrink or what ... .”
Declaring that Kimorlay was no troublemaker, Dalton is calling for justice for his son, who worked at the Iberostar Resort in Lilliput, St James.
One of the men who was having drinks with the alleged shooter believes the attack was unprovoked.
The police are yet to interview the accused to determine what charges, if any, should be laid.
“We are awaiting the presence of his lawyer in order to press criminal charges, and also, we have strong reasons to believe that the accused consumed too much alcohol, and this is what led to this ill-fated incident,” a police officer said.
The incident comes on the heels of a gruesome killing in the parish on Sunday, when a 62-year-old carpenter reportedly chopped his 29-year-old girlfriend to death between late Saturday night and early Sunday morning in Parnassus district in Clark’s Town.
