WESTERN BUREAU:

A 43-year-old Hanover man has been arrested following an allegation by his 19-year-old daughter that he sexually molested her on separate occasions over the past four months.

According to reports from the Lucea police, the accused started demanding sex from his daughter shortly after she went to live with him in June.

He later sexually assaulted her.

When he discovered that she outed him to the police, the father reportedly attacked her with a piece of iron, resulting in severe bruises and swelling.

The teenager reported the assault to the Lucea police and her father was detained last Friday.

Charges are expected to be laid shortly.

“He will be charged with multiple offences during the course of this week,” a senior police officer, who is close to the investigations, told The Gleaner.

“The police went to the community and he was picked up on the weekend, and a statement has since been taken from his daughter, who also received treatment for the injuries she suffered after he attacked and assaulted her at their home.”

The alleged incident sparked shock and shame among members the accused man’s family.

Since the start of the year, Hanover has recorded a number of high-profile rape cases, including two much-publicised incidents – one at Noel Holmes Hospital and the other at a children’s home.
