WESTERN BUREAU:

A primary schoolteacher was on Wednesday battling for life in the Black River Hospital in St Elizabeth after she was abducted by two men in Santa Cruz on Tuesday afternoon.

Her throat was slashed and she was left to die after being taken to a remote location in Lacovia.

The teacher, who is employed to Top Hill Primary in the parish, had just purchased items at a supermarket in Santa Cruz about 4:30 p.m. when two men pulled up in Toyota Probox motor car and forced her into the vehicle.

After being abused, the wounded teacher later managed to crawl to a nearby roadway where she was discovered by residents about 7 p.m.

Winston Smith, president of the Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA), said he was saddened by the incident and expressed hope that the teacher would make a full recovery.

“This latest incident makes me reflect on recent attacks on teachers such as the murder of one of the Clarendon schoolteachers, who was abducted from her home and murdered, and also the most recent incident where another teacher from the Marcus Garvey Technical High School, Ruchelle Williams, was also abducted and has been missing over three weeks now,” said Smith.

JTA President-elect LaSonja Harrison was reportedly spearheading a search team that is assisting the police in the hunt for Williams.
