Two prisoners vanish from MoBay police lock-up

The Police High Command has launched a top-level probe to determine how two prisoners went missing from the Freeport Police Station in Montego Bay, St James, on Saturday.
“It would seem as if they were released by someone,” a highly placed police source told The Sunday Gleaner.
According to the cop, the prisoners were discovered missing between 5:30 a.m and 6 a.m on Saturday.
The discovery was made as prisoners were being tallied for their morning shower. A thorough search revealed no physical breakout, the police source noted.
One of the escapees was in custody on six counts of murder.
Efforts to contact Senior Superintendent of Police Vernon Ellis, divisional commander for St James, and Area One commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Clifford Chambers, were unsuccessful. However, on Saturday night, head of the Jamaica Constabulary Force Corporate Communications Unit, Senior Superintendent of Police Stephanie Lindsay, confirmed the incident, but told The Sunday Gleaner that she was not in a position to speak on the matter as she had not been briefed.
The atmosphere was glum at the Freeport Police Station on Saturday.
“When something like this happens, it affects everybody, not only those who were on duty. Because it could happen to any one of us, but I am just coming on duty, so I don’t know,” a sub-officer on duty said.
“What I can tell you is that the policeman can be at work today and something like this happens and you are on interdiction or suspension tomorrow, just by being there.”
