Thirty-nine-year-old Naggo Head resident Keran McCollin was reportedly killed last Saturday in broad daylight, soon after spurning a directive by thugs to take down surveillance camera attached to his house.

A technician who reportedly disobeyed the directive of gangsters in his community to disconnect his home security camera system was killed in broad daylight last Saturday near his home in the White Lane area of Naggo Head in Portmore, St Catherine.

The deceased has been identified as 39-year-old Keran McCollin.

Reports are that about 1 p.m., McCollin was shot dead by an unknown assailant who escaped in the area on foot.

“Our intel has picked up ... that he was instructed by miscreants in that community to remove the camera system that is set up there,” head of the St Catherine South Police Division, Christopher Phillips, told The Gleaner.

When our news team visited White Lane on Tuesday, the community was like a ghost town with deserted streets as residents cowered in fear.

The bloodstained entrance to a gateway where McCollin was attacked bore testament to the tragedy.

Sticks of cigarettes were also seen close to the scene.

“One thing I know is that the community really appreciates him. He was a person that has special skill in that area, providing members with Internet service and so on,” Phillips said of the slain technician.

A female resident told The Gleaner that the community was shocked and saddened at the murder.

“Him nuh talk to people. Him stick to himself. He goes from work to back home, that is it. The community in shock and we can’t believe it happen … . That is why we stay behind we gate," she said.

Phillips said that the cops not be yielding ground to criminals.

“One thing is sure we are not going to give up our communities to gangsters. On the police side, we are gonna be doing all that is possible to restore some level of calm and peace in these communities because the fear of crime is actually stifling our own development,” he said,
