‘Dog Paw’ affiliate gunned down in Kintyre

A targeted man who escaped the wrath of gunmen during a drive-by shooting in Kintyre, St Andrew, last Friday was shot and killed by a lone gunman in the community on Monday afternoon.

The deceased is 28-year-old Darren ‘Percy’ Cousins, a resident of St Joseph Road in Kintyre.

Reports from the Papine police are that Cousins was shot and killed in his community about 4:45 p.m. by an unknown assailant.

Residents heard explosions and summoned the police.

Cousins was pronounced dead at hospital.

“Dem shoot after him Friday, I spoke to him on Saturday and tell him to just lay low, and this go happen. Dem kill him on one of the lane up there,” a relative of Cousins, who requested anonymity, told The Gleaner.

Investigators said that Cousins was on their radar because of his influence and because he was affiliated with the Christopher ‘Dog Paw’ Linton faction of Tavern, Kingston 6.

Cousin’s younger brother, Romaine ‘Diddy’ Richards, who was described as Linton’s right hand, was shot and killed in Kintyre by rival gangsters on Tuesday, August 10.

Cousins himself reportedly had to run for his life during that attack.

The police are keeping a close watch on the community as tensions remain high.

“All the players know themselves. It simply means that nobody is out of reach to the different factions,” a senior policeman told The Gleaner.

“The residents are not willing to speak, and, as the police turn their backs, the shootings and killings continue.”

Investigations into Cousins’ killing are ongoing.

Up to November 27, the St Andrew Central Police Division, within whose radius Kintyre falls, has seen an 11.4 per cent reduction in murders this year.

The division recorded 78 murders, compared to 88 for the corresponding period in 2020.

Jamaica’s overall murder toll at November 27 was 1,315.
