A gunman believed to have been seeking to exact revenge on another man opened fire at an illegal party in Old Folly, Discovery Bay, St Ann, early Monday morning, leaving two persons dead and three others injured.

Up to late Monday evening, police investigators were busy seeking details surrounding the shooting deaths of 23-year-old Tamara Kelly and Rojae Linton, 21, both of Discovery Bay addresses in the parish, who were among patrons at the all-white party.

The injured, all women, were taken to the St Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital where two, including a foreign national on vacation at a hotel in the neighbouring parish of Trelawny, were admitted while the third was treated and released.

The shooting reportedly occurred shortly after midnight on Sunday as patrons were enjoying themselves after the start of the 10 p.m. curfew.

The police were unable to give further details on the incident as the investigations are ongoing.

The double-killing pushed the murder toll in St Ann for the year up to 55.

Figures from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) indicate that between January 1 and December 25, there were 53 murders in St Ann, a decline of about 23 per cent from the 69 recorded for the similar period last year.

Over the same period, serious crimes in St Ann declined by 4.5 per cent, down from 267 to 255.
