Government to unveil policies today
The policies and programmes of the Holness administration for the 2022-2023 legislative year will be unveiled by Governor General Sir Patrick Allen when he delivers the Throne Speech in Gordon House today.
A scaled-down version of the ceremonial opening of Parliament has been planned, taking into account the various COVID-19 protocols.
Leader of government business in the House of Representatives, Edmund Bartlett, had indicated that the full membership of the Upper and Lower Houses of Parliament could not attend the sitting owing to social-distance considerations.
However, the traditional pomp and pageantry remain with the governor general expected to inspect the guard of honour – the First Battalion Jamaica Regiment.
At 2 p.m., members of the House of Representatives will meet, at which time Finance and the Public Service Minister, Dr Nigel Clarke, will table the 2022-2023 Estimates of Expenditure and other budget documents.
