A man who robbed his ex-girlfriend of a little more than half a million dollars, which included her tuition fee, was further remanded yesterday after he lost his freedom on Tuesday when he turned up in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court empty-handed.

Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque revoked Vasanie Kerr’s bail when he appeared in court without any money to start making restitution to the complainant.

The 21-year-old offender pleaded guilty to two counts of larceny and housebreaking on January 28 and had agreed to return to court with at least $200,000.

At that time, he had indicated that he was not working and would be seeking a job to accumulate the funds.

However, after he reneged on his promise on Tuesday, the judge took away his bail and ordered him to return to court yesterday with the promised funds.

But he did not comply.

When questioned by the judge as to why he did not have the money, Kerr explained that he wanted to bring the money as he had got paid, but he gave it to someone else he had owed.

“So you prefer to clear that debt than the court?” asked the judge, who expressed her disappointment at his actions.

“You are further remanded. You tell me for how long. You seem to think I am joking,” she said while Kerr mumbled in protest.

Kerr was then informed that he would be remanded until May 19.

“A young man who was serious about his case would have come with something,” the judge stated.

According to the facts in the case, while overseas, the 22-year-old complainant, a student at The Mico University College, had entrusted Kerr with $200,000 to pay her tuition, but he instead pocketed half of the money.

Kerr then broke into the complainant’s home and stole $435,000.

He told the court in January that he had taken the money to repay a loan.
