One dead, another in danger of losing testicle among seven victims

One of the seven persons shot in a drive-by gun attack at Greenwich Park Road in Kingston on Friday evening is fearful he may have to undergo an orchiectomy because he was shot in his testicles.

The shooting victim had just undergone surgery on Saturday for testicular torsion.

An orchiectomy is the removal of one or both testicles.

His brother, who requested anonymity, said during a Gleaner interview on Sunday that doctors were still monitoring the medical outcome.

The brother also said that the community of Greenwich Park was now tense. Residents were all locked away inside their houses and yards during the visit to the community.

One of the seven shooting victims died.

He has been identified as Robert Ewart, a 37-year-old market clerk of Beeston Street in Kingston.

The incident took place around 6:15 p.m. while the group was gathered on the sidewalk.

It is reported that a Toyota Axio motor car drove up and the occupants opened gunfire.

“The shooting took place right at the shop. Him shot from behind,” the brother of the man who may lose a testicle told The Gleaner.

He added that the vast majority of persons shot lived near to the crime scene.

Two cars were seen on Greenwich Park Road filled with bullet holes as a result of the shoot-out.

“The place tense now. It’s a risk mi a take a come out because a shooting take place at Lincoln Avenue as well,” he said of a nearby road.

According to the Jamaica Constabulary Force website, 686 persons were murdered up to June 20 this year. For the corresponding period in 2021, there were 679 murders.
