Peace Corps volunteers return September
United States (US) Ambassador to Jamaica, Nick Perry, says volunteers from the US Peace Corps will return to Jamaica in September.
The volunteers, who have been working with Jamaicans since 1962, were absent in the last two years owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Perry’s remarks came on Tuesday evening at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel where a ceremony was held to mark the 246th anniversary of America’s independence.
The top US diplomat in Jamaica said that Washington has issued a record number of H2 visas over the last 12 months to thousands of Jamaicans who work temporarily in the US.
He told the audience comprising senior government ministers, technocrats, members of the diplomatic corps, among others, that since the start of the pandemic, the US has provided more than US$16 million in support to Jamaica.
