Three killed in Trelawny crash
Two bus drivers were among three persons killed Thursday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash in Trelawny that left at least 26 others nursing injuries at Falmouth Hospital.
The incident occurred along the Braco main road.
Those killed have been identified as 63-year-old Newvin Johnson, resort staff bus driver of Chester district in Laughlands, St Ann; 50-year-old Tomie Lee McCook, driver of Aberdeen district in Brown’s Town, St Ann; and Annette Brown, also of St Ann.
Reports are that shortly after 1 p.m., Johnson was transporting 24 staffers to the Ocean Coral Resort in Trelawny in a Toyota Coaster bus when McCook, who was driving a Nissan Caravan minibus easterly, collided with a Honda City motor car that was travelling in the opposite direction.
The Nissan Caravan sustained damage in the resulting smash-up.
McCook and Johnson were pronounced dead on arrival at hospital while Brown succumbed to her wounds while undergoing treatment.
Acting senior deputy superintendent in charge of the Trelawny Fire Department, Roland Walters, told The Gleaner that his team received the call around 1 p.m.
“The fire brigade had an ambulance, two fire trucks, and we had assistance from Montego Bay Fire Department with their ambulance, and the St Ann Bay Hospital,” Walters stated.
Since the start of the year, the parish of Trelawny has recorded 19 traffic fatalities in 15 crashes.
