Campion College student drowns in school pool

A police investigation has been launched into the death of 15-year-old Jordan Gibson, a fifth-form student at Campion College.

Police reports are that Gibson was attending water polo try-outs at the St Andrew-based secondary school on Thursday, when he developed difficulties in the pool.

An ambulance was called and the Gibson was transported to the hospital. However, efforts to save him were unsuccessful.

When The Gleaner visited the school on Friday, guidance counsellors from several Corporate Area high schools were on hand to assist in grief counselling for students and staff, who tried to comfort each other in their collective loss.

A candle was lit in memory of Gibson, who their classmates described as a jovial person who “always had a story to tell”.

Principal Grace Baston and several teachers at the school declined to speak with The Gleaner, but in a release later in the day, Campion College said it was deeply saddened by the tragedy.

“We grieve with his family, friends, and all who feel his loss,” the school said, noting that the youngster would be deeply missed.

“We pray for God’s mercy and comfort for his parents and family. May his soul rest in peace,” the release added.
