Thomas appointed interim DCS Commissioner
DEPUTY COMMISSIONER Dr Marc Thomas will act as commissioner of the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) following the retirement of Lieutenant Colonel Gary Rowe, who had served as commissioner from April 11, 2019 to Thursday, May 11, 2023.
Meanwhile, Orville Moore, chief probation aftercare officer, will act as interim deputy commissioner.
In a media release, the DCS thanked Lieutenant Colonel Rowe for his “four years of solid leadership”.
UN secretary-general to visit Ja
THE UNITED Nations secretary-general, António Guterres, is scheduled to arrive in Jamaica tomorrow, and will meet with Prime Minister Andrew Holness on Monday.
They are expected to address a wide range of issues, including the impact of the climate crisis in the Caribbean and upcoming high-level discussions on the midterm review of the global framework for disaster risk reduction. They will also discuss the situation in Haiti, as well as ways of involving the international community, including Jamaica’s leadership, in efforts to reform the global financial architecture. Jamaica is co-chair, alongside Canada, of the Group of Friends on SDG Financing.
The secretary-general and the prime minister are scheduled to hold a joint press conference following their meeting, which is to be broadcast on Web TV.
Grange names new Insports board
MINISTER OF Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange, has announced the new board of directors of Institute of Sports Limited. The board will serve for a period of one year, which became effective on May 1, 2023.
Newton Amos is chairman and Ian Forbes is deputy chairman. Other members are: Ronald Anderson, Vishwanauth Tolan, Dr Michelle Holt, Dr Lee Martin, Allan Beckford, Glen Nelson, Emile Spence, Shirley McLean Brown, Suzzette Ison and Major Desmon Brown, ex officio (interim executive director, Insports).
