Corcho leaving Calabar for Bethlehem Moravian College

Outgoing Calabar High School principal Albert Corcho will take the reins at Malvern, St Elizabeth-based Bethlehem Moravian College (BMC) next academic year, The Gleaner can confirm.

Corcho’s resignation has been accepted by the board of the Red Hills Road, St Andrew-based boys school. It takes effect August 31.

Sources connected to BMC told The Gleaner yesterday that Corcho has indicated in the affirmative that he has accepted the position from the board of the college. Corcho was given seven days by the institution to formally accept the contract.

BMC’s connections are certain it will be accepted as “he is required to give three months to the Calabar Board that he intends to resign. So his resignation letter had to be submitted at a specific time.”

According to the source, “...for the first time in a long time the Moravian family has some positive news and it is that Mr Corcho will assume the role of principal for the new academic year.”

The Gleaner was told that Corcho applied for the position, which has been vacant for more than a year. He will replace Claudine Blythe-Myles, who was the acting principal.

News of Corcho’s resignation first came after an internal memo from Calabar’s board, which is chaired by the Reverend Karl Johnson.

It stated that the school board has received and accepted the resignation. Corcho has been the principal of the Red Hills Road institution for more than 10 years.

“Following from this development, the board has put in place arrangements to ensure the continued sound management of the school as it begins the process of identifying our next principal,” the memo stated.

The memo also stated that the board led by Johnson has used the occasion to express its appreciation to Corcho for his years of service to the school and to wish for him every success in his future endeavours.
