Cops gun down person of interest in Waterloo triple murder

An intelligence-driven operation by police operatives has resulted in a breakthrough in Tuesday morning’s triple murder of a family in Waterloo District, St Catherine.
The man killed has been identified by his aliases, ‘Gaza’ or ‘Gaza Man’, of Waterloo District.
Gaza Man was killed when he allegedly engaged members of the security forces. An illegal gun was seized from his body.
A further search of the premises at which he was killed resulted in the seizure of a Magnum revolver and an assortment of ammunition.
The latest event in Waterloo was outlined by the police hierarchy during a media briefing at the Jamaica Police Staff College yesterday.
“As a result of proper intelligence and investigation, an operation was conducted in Waterloo this morning, which resulted in the fatal shooting of a suspect who challenged the police,” said Senior Superintendent of Police Stephanie Lindsay.
Lindsay, who heads the Corporate Communication Unit of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, said the man killed was named as a suspect in the murder of the family.
“In addition to the man killed, three others, including his brother, have been taken into custody in connection with the gun seizure,” Lindsay continued.
It was revealed that the police investigators are determined to get justice and bring reassurance to the citizenry.
The police will continue to occupy the space but need assistance by way of information to pursue the criminals.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Gary Griffiths, who is responsible for Area Five, acknowledged that the triple murder was connected to a disagreement involving the Tryall Heights Gang, which is trying to control Waterloo.
This, Griffiths said, has resulted in bloodletting.
In addition to local players in the violence, there are individuals involved from overseas.
On Tuesday, about 5:30 a.m., the bodies of 43-year-old Omar Wellington, his 35-year-old wife, Sharon Francis-Wellington, who was pregnant, and their son, 16-year-old Innswood High School student Orlando Wellington, were found in their ransacked home in Waterloo. Two of the victims had their hands tied, with their throats slashed. They had all been shot.
