St Catherine man drowns in Portland

A St Catherine man reportedly drowned while swimming at the Blue Lagoon, one of Portland's premiere tourist attraction sites, on Sunday.
Police sources have revealed that the man, whose name has been withheld, was among a group of persons who journeyed to Portland from Portmore, St Catherine, on a trip to the Blue Lagoon.
According to the police, the man reportedly failed to adhere to the safety rules and regulations, including the wearing of a life jacket, among other things, before entering the water.
The police said the man jumped into the blue waters of the lagoon and reported got into difficulty.
He was later pulled from the Lagoon but was pronounced dead.
Haitians landed in Portland

The Portland police have confirmed that a group of Haitian boat people landed atLong Bay Beach yesterday.
According to the police, a group comprising approximately 30 Haitians, including men, women, and children, landed shortly after 4:40 p.m. aboard an 18-foot sail boat.
The police are also cautioning residents about hiding Haitians after receiving word that residente may have participated in removing people from the beach and offering them safety in their home.
It is the third group of Haitians that has landed in Portland since the start of the year, and it comes on the heels of another group that was repatriated in early September.
