‘No report of damage’ in St James
IN ST James, Monday’s tremor could be felt in sections of downtown Montego Bay and surrounding communities, and in areas such as include Irwin, Content and Dumfries.
However, reports from many residents indicated that the tremors were largely mild and lasted no longer than 10 seconds.
Tamoy Sinclair, St James’ parish disaster coordinator, said she has been carrying out assessments among the St James Municipal Corporation’s partners in the aftermath of the quake.
“There is no report of damage from community groups, the National Works Agency, and the tourism sector. I have been in the process of doing situational assessments among partners, and there is nothing to report thus far, but many stakeholders among businesses, schools and tourism entities did the standard evacuation procedure,” Sinclair told The Gleaner.
It is also understood that operations at the Cornwall Regional Hospital, the Sangster International Airport, and businesses at Freeport were unaffected by the quake, and the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry sent out a notice that it would be offering assistance to members whose businesses may have been adversely impacted.
