Cops seize weapons, ammo on New Year’s Day
As Jamaicans came together to celebrate the arrival of a new year, police from across the Corporate Area and in May Pen, Clarendon were conducting operations that netted at least three firearms and several rounds of ammunition.
In one instance, lawmen assigned to the May Pen Operation Support Team in Clarendon are reported to have seized a firearm and one cartridge during an intelligence-led operation in Oaks Pen, located in Rosewell, Sandy Bay in the parish.
According to the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, around 12:20 p.m., lawmen acted on information and carried out a search of an unused fowl coop and a 12 gauge shotgun and one cartridge was recovered.
While no arrest was made, the CCU said investigations were continuing.
In the meantime, earlier in the day, a .38 Smith and Wesson revolver was recovered by lawmen assigned to the St Andrew Central Police Division during another intelligence-led operation along Godpyle Road in Kingston 5.
Reports from the Cross Roads police are that, about 6:05 a.m., lawmen acting on information went to the gully in the area where they found the weapon in a brown bag. The weapon was sent to the Forensic Laboratory for processing.
No one was arrested in connection with the seizure.
Teen caught with ammo
Over in August Town, St Andrew, 12 9mm cartridges were seized from a teen along Bedward Crescent.
According to the Half-Way Tree police, about 1:50 a.m., lawmen were on patrol in the area when the teen was among a group of men coming from an event. They were accosted, searched, and the ammunition was removed from his jacket pocket. He was taken into custody pending further investigations.
Around 10 minutes earlier, the St Andrew North police recovered a 9mm pistol, two magazines and 26 9mm rounds of ammunition on Fagan Avenue in Grants Pen.
Reports from the Constant Spring police are that, about 1:40 a.m., lawmen were on patrol in the area when a group of persons was seen standing along the roadway. Upon the approach of the police, the crowd dispersed. A search was conducted of the area and the firearm and ammunition recovered.
Investigations continue.
